Our view on drugs

As a coach (International Coaching Federation) and body-oriented psychotherapist in training (Agape), I cannot solve your problems. But by listening without judging, by acting as a sounding board, by asking questions, by confronting you with yourself, I will try to help you gain more insight into what is going on under the disturbing behaviour on the surface (e.g. too much alcohol, cannabis, cocaine...). What causes you, despite the fact that you would love to use less, to keep ‘relapsing’ into your old habits? Examining your own small edges is not always easy. Some problems are better tackled together.

Whether you want to start using more consciously, reduce or stop altogether. None of it matters to me. Our coaching approach focuses mainly on young people and adults who use alcohol, tobacco, cannabis or other drugs without severely disrupting their lives.

If, after the intake interview or in the course of the sessions, your problems turn out to be more serious than first thought, I advise people to seek help from a specialised psychologist (www.vindeenpsycholoog.be) or rehabilitation centre (www.druglijn.be). I work closely with doctors and psychologists and we regularly refer to each other.

Drugs (alcohol, speed, cannabis, cocaine, sleeping pills...) in themselves are never good or bad. Of course, the quality of certain illegal drugs can leave something to be desired, but ultimately it is how you deal with them that determines whether you get into trouble with them or not. If you regularly use alcohol, cannabis or other drugs because you do not feel well, because you are stressed, because you cannot sleep, because you have problems, because you worry a lot... then this can be very helpful in the short term, but in the longer term you risk becoming dependent. Those who use drugs to run away from themselves get into trouble sooner or later.

There is a time to party and enjoy life and that often involves drugs (e.g. alcohol, cocaÏne...). In itself, there is nothing wrong with that. But there is also a time to work, to develop yourself, to be fully present, to be ready for others.... In those circumstances, substance use is more likely to lead to problems.
